Locomotion

From the bullet trains of Japan and Europe to the diesel-powered iron horses of America, I have an infatuation with locomotives. As a child, I wandered for miles up and down the train tracks that knifed my hometown in two. Countless pennies found their demise on the steel rails at my hand.

So, on a magnificent late-monsoon season afternoon last September, I ventured again onto the tracks with my infrared camera and stood precariously close as these 4,000 horsepower engines stormed by. I hope one can feel the palpable energy of these machines through these black and white images.
